Welcome 2013 Parents and Students!!!

Dear Parents,
I am so excited to have your child in my class this year and I hope this blog will help provide you with information on what's going on in our classroom.Your first grader will learn many different skills this year and be involved in many different themed based activities. Socially, first graders are much more independent and responsible for their own actions than they were in kindergarten. First grade is a fun and exciting year and I look forward to helping your child every step of the way! For more information on what your child will learn this year visit: georgiastandards.org

About our classroom

Class Rules: Our school has school wide rules that are followed by all. They are posted in your  EPS Parent Handbook and state: No one has the right to: 1. Hurt themselves or others.  2. Damage or destroy property or materials.  3. Steal.4. Interfere with another students learning

Classroom Procedures:  1. Follow directions. 2. Keep hands, feet and other objects to yourself. 3. Be kind to other children and adults in the classroom. Show respect. No teasing, tattling, fighting or saying "bad" words. 4. Take good care of class materials and clean up things when you are finished with them.  5. Always walk quietly in the hallways and classroom. 6. Raise your hand when you need to share something with the class. 7. Use a soft voice in the classroom, save your big voice for outside. 8. Obey rules of the lunchroom, playground, special classes, buses, etc.

Behavior Management Plan : I do not anticipate behavior to be a problem, but for behavior management in our room, I use the "clip" system. Clips are moved when our class manners are not followed. The first offense is a warning. Further offenses will result in minutes off recess. If behavior is severe I will send a note home or call. Children with good behavior get to visit my treasure box at random times. You can keep track of your child's behavior by checking the Friday folder each week.

Grades: Work that has been completed will be in the Friday folder.  Papers that have the word "Evidence" written with a 3-2-or 1 on them go into my grade book. Other work will have a check or a smiley. Only papers with the word "Evidence" on them go into my grade book.

Parent Letters: Parent letters will go home on Fridays. Parent letters will keep you informed on happenings in our class and what we are studying. Normally, parent letters will come home in the Friday folder and will be stapled to your child's completed work. Please make sure to read the parent letter and share in your child's work. There will be a weekly behavior sheet stapled to one side of the Friday folder that gives information on your child's behavior for the week. Please sign this sheet and have your child return the folder.

Snack Store:  Snack orders will be taken in the room. If your child wants a snack, he or she will need to give me the money and I will take their order and the snack will be delivered to our room. You may send exact change daily or enough money for the week/month…I will keep a chart with your child’s total and when he/she needs more snack money, I will let you know. If you do not want your child to purchase snacks from the snack store he/she is welcome to bring a snack from home.

Special Occasions: If your child is having a birthday or special occasion and you would like to send a treat...please just let me know a few days in advance so I can plan.
